It is run at Terror Valley.

It is the THE most over rated race in Australia.

Great race but what's the point talking about it, we all know who's going to win so there's not going to be a whole lot of discussion.

If we are lucky there will only be 6 horses taking on Winx.

Always putting a positive spin on things djebel.

Winx the obvious one providing nothing goes wrong. Interesting they've changed her prep this time around and will go in 5th up.

Really hoping Happy Clapper goes this way again as i'm on at decent place odds ($25 & $19), also have a small wager at $100 to win. Ran 5th last year when he was going no way near as well after having a major setback in his prep. His such a tractable horse these days if he draws well I think he can definitely be the quinella horse. $440k is a decent cheque for coming runner-up.

Always putting an honest spin of things TheCat. Beer

It will be interesting to see what they do do with Happy Clapper, He deserves to dodge Winx and win a good quality races.

Haha good call Djebel..

Assuming he pulls up ok the Craven Plate looks the logical next step? Tom Melbourne likely his biggest danger once again and given the weight swing in Happy Clappers favour he'll probably be a good thing.

Basically it's going to be Winx vs. a bunch of D grade Euros. Exciting!

Are Humidor, Gingernuts, Bonneval and a couple of others third-rate Europeans?

You think they will back up from a Caulfield Cup ?

We really are backward racing country if they do.

All our good horses behind Winx will racing the week before instead, which makes for a vintage Caulfield Cup but a ho-hum Cox Plate!

Imagine being the MVRC, planning for a good international horse or two at the start of the season but ending up with Folkswood, Kaspersky, Riven Light and Taj Mahal.

Surely there's no chance of Humidor, Gingernuts or Bonneval backing up if they are targeting the Melbourne Cup?

Would love for someone to attempt to put the anticipated field together as I'm pretty sure Winx is the only confirmed runner?

Confirmed: Winx

Likely: Happy Clapper, Tom Melbourne

Possible: Taj Mahal, Rivens Light, Folkswood

Tom Melbourne available at $26 the place currently. Obviously no idea if he goes this way, but a good run in the Craven Plate will surely sway them? $100k prize money down to 8th, so effectively a free swing for them.

I think you will find Chris Waller is going to keep Tom Melbourne to a mile.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tosen Stardom lines up here. Aussie Bloodstock won't be afraid of having a throw at the stumps... a placing would like nice on his resume

You are probably right.

Toorak next start than a fortnight into the Plate.

You could imagine a field like this lining up (I forgot Gailo Chop. Tom Melb bc of OTI. So Si Bon if he won Toorak, etc.)

1 - Happy Clapper (Patrick Webster/Blake Shinn) 59
2 - Tosen Stardom (Darren Weir/Craig Williams) 59
3 - Gailo Chop (Darren Weir/Mark Zahra) 59
4 - Tom Melbourne (Chris Waller/Glen Boss) 59
5 - Kaspersky (Jane Chapple-Hyam/Michelle Payne) 59
6 - Folkswood (Charlie Appleby/William Buick) 59
7 - Riven Light (Wiliam Mullins/?) 59
8 - So Si Bon (Robbie Laing/Craig Newitt) 59
9 - Winx (Chris Waller/Hugh Bowman) 57
10 - Taj Mahal (Aidan O'Brien/?) 56

Then you have those from the Caulfield Cup who'd well and truly deserve a run if they went this way instead in Humidor, Bonneval, Hartnell, Gingernuts, etc. You could see a token 3yo running as well.

I can't remember a Cox Plate year with less interest from ANZ trainers. No one wants to run against Winx!

You can hate Moonee Valley, Australian trainers, fortnightly run programs, gelding colts, Group 1 handicaps, and everything about Australian racing in general, without hating on our best race as well.

Not really.

If you dislike Moonee Valley why would you go along with it flagship race being the best race in Australia ?

$1.4, Winx is comfortably better than all of them away from MV. It's quite clear she's just something else on his track/distance though.

For the place ?

Absolutely.

Even $41 eachway sounds value to me.

Is he in the Country, he must be to be running in the Plate. Yes absolutely that is value.

They have ran 2-08+ on a good track, he never spent a penny in the run and when asked found little, beaten about 8 lengths makes him about 2-10, .$41 the place , about right imo.
